American Idol alum HunterGirl hopes to bring inspiration to listeners with the release of her brand-new song, “Ain’t About You.”

The Idol Season 20 runner-up’s newest track puts her vulnerability on display as she unveils some of the raw and emotional feelings she experienced early on while on her country music journey.

Self-penned by the thought-provoking storyteller, “Ain’t About You” finds HunterGirl, whose real name is Hunter Wolkonowski, encouraging others to continue following their passions no matter how difficult the process might be.

The tune, produced by Lindsay Rimes (Kane Brown, Kelsea Ballerini), also offers a message to folks that it’s important to put effort into one’s dreams as others could be watching and might find motivation and purpose from it.

If you give up, if you give in / You should know that you’re not the only one who’s losing / What if there’s a little girl who needs a song / Telling her she’s beautiful when the world tells her she’s wrong? / So before you say you’re not good enough / That all your dreams are wishing dust / You call it quits, walk away and say you’re through / What if it ain’t about you?” HunterGirl delivers the powerful chorus, which serves as a reminder to keep going despite any setbacks.

Powerful Message That’s Destined To Resonate With Listeners

The optimistic ballad may resonate with people due to its powerful message, but for HunterGirl, the song is deeply personal. So much so that she credits the tune as the reason why she stayed in Nashville to pursue her dreams.

According to a press release, before she auditioned for American Idol, HunterGirl was facing a struggle where she noticed her “friends signing record and publishing deals. She couldn’t help but wonder if she was on the right path, still chasing her musical dream in Nashville when she hadn’t made much leeway.”

In that moment of darkness, however, HunterGirl found hope through faith. The Tennessee native turned to writing, experiencing a 45-minute conversation with Jesus. The press release states that ‘“Ain’t About You” flooded out of her like a resounding prayer, reminding her there’s “purpose in the wait.”’

The Song Motivates Listeners To Chase Their Dreams

HunterGirl’s moment of clarity with her original song took place just two weeks before she set foot on the Idol set in front of judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie.

Although she held onto the tune during and after exiting the show, her newfound perception of her craft led her to take second place during the reality TV singing competition.

After the show, HunterGirl shared “Ain’t About You” with American Idol winners Chayce Beckham and Noah Thompson at a BBQ cookout and received high remarks on the song.

Now that she has gone on to sign a record deal with 19 Recordings/BBR Music Group/Wheelhouse Records and has also co-headlined a pack-out tour, HunterGirl hopes to influence and persuade others to not give up on their own dreams and goals.

“If there’s anybody out there right now thinking about giving up on a dream or something they love, I hope they listen to this song and think twice about it,” HunterGirl said in a statement. “We’re all here to do something special.”
