Kelsea Ballerini treated fans to a special performance on the final night of her recent HEARTFIRST Tour.

The “LOVE IS A COWBOY” singer debuted her new song, “MARILYN” from her fourth studio album, SUBJECT TO CHANGE, on Oct. 14 in Connecticut.

“I just put out a new record a couple [of] weeks ago and it’s my fourth record, which means I’ve gotten to put out a lot of music over the last eight years,” Ballerini said introducing the performance. She continued, telling fans that not every song they like makes it to radio and she wanted to do something special for the last night of the tour, leaving it up to a vote on Instagram.

Because so many fans said they wanted to hear a new song from her latest record, she chose “MARILYN,” her solo write that pays homage to the legendary actress, Marilyn Monroe.

Ballerini performed the song wearing a sparkly gold outfit and matching boots accompanied by her guitar players. Following the conclusion of the concert, she shared video of the performance online, writing, “for the last show, for the first time… Marilyn.”

While doing press for her new album, Ballerini had said she “literally [couldn’t] sing” the song on tour in light of her announcing her divorce from fellow country singer, Morgan Evans.

“I wrote [the song, ‘MARILYN’] in 2020… It means something completely different to me now, coming out during this stage of my life. I’m not playing it on tour because I literally can’t sing it,” she explained during a conversation with Variety.

Ballerini also shared how she used Monroe as a metaphor for someone who has more layers than at first glance.

“I just think for me, it was, that’s how out of touch with yourself you can get, where you actually don’t know if you’re happy,” Ballerini explained, referencing how she used an interview sound bite from the late actress being asked if she was happy. “I use Marilyn as the metaphor of someone who presents such whimsy and seems flirty and glittery, but there’s so many layers more to that, and to her. I think that we all feel that on different levels now — everyone’s Internet-famous, you know,” she added.

Ballerini brought her 10-date HEARTFIRST Tour to cities including New York, D.C., and Philly. The tour featured support from Georgia Webster.
