Jennifer Nettles surprised a fan at work ahead of a recent Broadway play in New York City.
Nettles, who is one half of the popular country duo Sugarland, shared a clip on Instagram on Saturday (Nov. 6), surprising a longtime super fan named Lizzie at work after seeing the fan at several showings of ‘Waitress,’ a Broadway show in New York City that Nettles is currently starring in.
“I love a good SURPRISE! Lizzie, after hearing such incredible things about you, I’m thrilled I finally got to meet you! Your reaction was unforgettable (as was your infectious smile)!! Thank you for all your love and support, and I’ll make sure to keep an eye out for you in the crowd,” Nettles captioned the clip on Instagram.
“Hey Lizzie, Jennifer Nettles here! So, I’ve been seeing you night after night in the audience at the sweet Barrymore to see the sweet ‘Waitress,’” Nettles said in the clip’s opening. She continued, “I’ve also been seeing your sweet Tweets. I figured it’s about time that we meet.”
The “Unlove You” singer then explained that she did some research on where Lizzie worked and wanted to surprise the fan at her place of employment to meet her.
“So I did a little snooping around and learned that you work at the Drama Book Shop right here in New York City,” Nettle said. “So, I thought I would pop by on my way to the theater and meet you. See you soon!”
As the clip continued, Nettles is seen at Lizzie’s job, Drama Book Shop in New York City, where the singer, wearing a face mask and a heavy winter coat said, “We’re about to go in and surprise Lizzie!”
Nettles wandered around the book store until she spotted Lizzie, and when she did the shocked fan fell to the floor in tears of sheer happiness, asking “what’s going on?”
Lizzie then got up off the floor as Nettles said, “Hi Friend! May I hug you?” The fan quickly responded, “yes, oh my gosh.”
“So I have heard so many fun things! I’ve heard that you’ve been to the show eight times,” Nettles said to Lizzie, as the fan replied, “I don’t know who told you that, but I definitely have.”
“And I see this,” the Waitress star said to the fan as she pointed at her necklace, which said Nettles. “Then I also was made privy to some of your dancing to my music, here at the Drama Book Shop. I figured, you know what? I need to come meet this Lizzie right now!”
The Sugarland singer then gifted Lizzie with a signed playbill from Waitress, which the fan will cherish dearly.
Nettles is currently playing the lead role in Broadway’s Waitress for a limited run through Nov. 24 in New York City.
Waitress is produced on Broadway by Barry and Fran Weissler and Norton and Elayne Herrick.
