Reviver Music artist Ian Flanigan has already released his song, “Under The Southern Sky.” Now, he is premiering the accompanying lyric video for the feel-good track exclusively with readers of Music Mayhem.
Getting folks ready for epic summer days ahead, this clip finds Flanigan embracing the power of freedom over open roads and endless highways. A picturesque ocean-colored sky hangs above a heavily traveled ground as viewers soak in a world that goes beyond the city. Lyrics paying tribute to the heart of America’s small towns, meanwhile, flash across the screen, inviting listeners to sing along.
“Under the Southern Sky / Tonight there’s a backseat fire burning / Hotter than the Fourth of July / There’s some hard-earned money ‘bout to get thrown down on a hard-earned Friday night / Whoa / A whole lotta dreaming, loving and leaving and getting by / Under the Southern Sky,” the Season 19 finalist of NBC’s The Voice sings the uptempo tune, displaying his distinct gritty vocals over a country-rock melody that evokes the styling of a John Mellencamp hit.
“We filmed the lyric video coming back from the Grand Canyon, and it really illustrated that big sky vibe for me. I hope [fans] resonate with the vibe as much as I do!” Flanigan tells Music Mayhem before adding, “‘Under a Southern Sky’ is a song about that small town/hometown, summer night feeling when you’re feeling free and rocking out. It’s an anthem for that good feeling.”
Flanigan is no stranger to the road and the outdoors. A self-proclaimed nomad, he has previously canvassed the country in a Winnebago he affectionately calls a Flanivan with his wife and daughter.
Flanigan is gearing up to hit the road very soon. On March 11, he will open an exclusive show with Blake Shelton at Ole Red in Gatlinburg, Tenn., as part of Shelton’s annual month-long Spring Blake Celebration.
Flanigan will then headline a round of shows for the tour, alongside fellow The Voice alums, Emily Ann Roberts, and The Joy Reunion, making stops at various Ole Red locations across the country.
“[I] can’t wait!” Flanigan says of his upcoming performances. “Feeling very grateful for the opportunity to open for [Blake] and be a part of Spring Blake. Love all the new music he’s been releasing. I’m Looking forward to catching up and hanging out!”
“It’s goin dooown!!! So grateful and excited to be opening for the man himself and joining Team Blake alumni The Joy Reunion and Emily Ann Roberts gonna be one hell of a time on Spring Blake!” Flanigan also shared on social media, alongside a photo of him onstage with his former superstar mentor. “Come on down and see us 3/11 &12 Ole Red Gatlinburg, 3/14 Ole Red Nashville and 3/16 at Ole Red Orlando!
