After truly impressing the Idol judges last week with a stunning cover of Kelly Clarkson, Grace Kinstler was given a song by Celine Dion to sing, which truly allowed her powerhouse vocals to shine.
During the American Idol season finale on Sunday, May 23, the top 3 finalists were also tasked with performing a song that was hand-selected by the Idol judges. Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry chose “All By Myself” by Celine Dion for Kinstler.
Surrounded by lasers and low lying fog, Kinstler soared with the Dion track that earned her praise from the Idol judges.
“I mean you did not just take that one higher then Celine even sings it, holy crap that gave me full body chills,” Perry gushed.
“To be on the finale and to deliver that at this time, it was truly amazing and like I said for us to be able to pick that song and for you to take it to another level, it was amazing,” Bryan said.
“Only you can create another song out of a standard song,” Richie added. “Your not only a great voice but a storyteller, amazing performance, I loved it so much.”
Furthermore, Kinstler also performed several other times during the three-hour Idol finale, including covers of Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” and “Aretha Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.” In addition to the covers performed by Kinstler, she also joined Chaka Khan, Macklemore and Alessia Cara for duets.
The three-hour American Idol finale also featured performances from Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham, Sheryl Crow, Alessia Cara, Leona Lewis, Mickey Guyton, Luke Combs, Macklemore, Chaka Khan, Fall Out Boy, and Idol judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie & Luke Bryan.
In addition to the celebrity performers on the star-studded finale lineup, the top 3 including Chayce Beckham, Grace Kinstler and Willie Spence also performed several times throughout the show. Idol also welcomed back several contestants from the Top 24 to perform during the finale including Alyssa Wray, Arthur Gunn, Cassandra Coleman, Casey Bishop, DeShawn Goncalves, Hunter Metts, Phillip Murphy and more.
Hosted by Ryan Seacrest, the season finale of American Idol aired live on Sunday, May 23 at 8/7c on ABC.
