Funk-R&B duo Tuxedo (recording artist Mayer Hawthorne and producer Jake One) has released their new single, “The Tuxedo Way,” today, marking the critically-acclaimed group’s first taste of new music in 2019. “Tuxedo is music for celebrating,” shares the duo about the new song. “Yet, as we were working on new music, we realized, much to our surprise, that we didn’t actually have a quintessential celebration song in our catalog. ‘The Tuxedo Way’ is the answer to that problem.”

In other exciting Tuxedo news, the guys are hitting the road this summer on a 21-date headlining tour throughout July and August. Kicking off July 20th in Santa Ana, California, Tuxedo will bring the funk across North America stopping in such cities as Las Vegas, Denver, Austin, Atlanta, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, New York City (August 6th at Webster Hall), Boston, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Seattle, Vancouver, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles (August 23rd at The Globe Theater) before wrapping August 24th in San Diego. Pre-sale tickets will be available starting Wednesday, May 15th at 10am local time to those subscribed to the Mayer Hawthorne or Tuxedo mailing lists, who will receive a code to buy, with the public on-sale commencing Friday, May 17th at 10am local time. See below for full list of tour dates and visit www.tuxedofunk.com for ticketing information.

Tuxedo, Los Angeles-based recording artist Mayer Hawthorne and Seattle-based producer Jake One, has been steadily making a name for themselves over the past five years, standing at the forefront of a new wave of gangster boogie – one that owes as much to G-funk as P-funk. This is the territory of pre- and post-hydraulic low riders: a mélange of Cali boom-bap, analog synth bass and elegant disco that resonates truth and authenticity in an era where so many are faking the funk.

Bonding over a shared love of Chic, Parliament, and the other signs in the greater funk Zodiac, Hawthorne and One were early predictors of the sea changes that American music would undergo in 2016. Their first full-length release, Tuxedo (2015, Stones Throw Records), debuted at #1 on iTunes’ R&B chart in the U.S. and Top 10 on Billboard’s R&B Albums Chart. Their follow-up album on Stones Throw Records, Tuxedo II (2017), which premiered with a special performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, is a modern testament to unity and positivity in trying times, serving as a reminder that the dance floor will always be there to welcome you, whoever you are. Tuxedo has since performed on Conan and NPR’s Tiny Desk and been featured by the likes of Billboard, Wax Poetics, Mass Appeal, DJ Mag, HipHopDX, Nylon, OkayPlayer, Huffington Post, EW.com, and Medium, among many others, throughout their rise. Tuxedo’s music has been streamed nearly 40 million times on Spotify, with their playful, throwback-centric music videos amassing over 16 million views on YouTube.

Considering their individual successes – Mayer Hawthorne’s four acclaimed solo albums and Jake One’s impressive production work for hip-hop’s elite including Drake, Future, The Weeknd and De La Soul – and eight Grammy nominations between the two of them, it’s no surprise that their powers combined have yet again yielded an absolute slapper, perfect for dance parties in 2019 and beyond.
