Thomas Rhett, Luke Combs, Kelsea Ballerini Among 2020 CMT Music Awards Nominees

Thomas Rhett, Luke Combs, Kelsea Ballerini, Sam Hunt and more lead the list of 2020 CMT Music Awards nominees.

On Wednesday (Sept. 23), CMT revealed the full list of nominations via Instagram Reels. This marked the first major U.S. awards show to reveal nominations via IG Reels.

In addition to Rhett, Combs, Ballerini and Hunt, Ashley McBryde and Dan + Shay all earned three nominations each for this year’s annual award show.

2020 CMT Music Awards will be spotlighting a new generation of country music stars as all six “Breakthrough Video of the Year” nominees: Blanco Brown, Caylee Hammack, Gabby Barrett, Ingrid Andress, Riley Green and Travis Denning, are first-time nominees. The Highwomen and Tanya Tucker are also up for their first nods.

For the first time since 2017, The Chicks (formerly Dixie Chicks) are up for a nomination.

The highly coveted “Video of the Year” award includes 14 acts, notably Carrie Underwood, who reigns as the most awarded artist in CMT Music Awards history with 20 wins. The finalists for “Video of the Year” will be announced on October 12; fans will be able to vote throughout the week until October 16 to determine the winner.

CMT Music Awards are a fan-voted show and voting begins today at vote.cmt.com and continues until 12PM ET/11 AM CT on Monday, October 12.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the awards show was forced to reschedule from June and will now air on October 21 at 8 p.m. CT on CMT as well as on MTV, MTV2, Logo, Paramount Network, Pop Tv and TV Land. The annual awards show is expected to feature “epic outdoor performances in and around Music City,” as per a press release.
