Texas’ own multi-talented instrumentalist, Bryce Avary, launched his solo project of The Rocket Summer in the early 2000s. Nearly 20 years later it’s save to say Avary has secured his place in the indie-pop world. Each new The Rocket Summer album displays a clear evolution of creativity, craft, and sound. Avary’s seventh full length album, Sweet Shivers, released in August is no exception. This album may have the most distinct sounds of the entire TRS collection. In an interview with TalkHouse.com Avary describes how songs, to him, appear and evoke certain colors – a term frequently known as synesthesia and that he believes everyone to an extent experiences this. Sweet Shivers brings more colors to mind than previous albums. The Rocket Summer’s 2019 Tour kicked off September 10th in Phoenix, AZ and continues through October 19. Thursday night (September 12) in Austin held a nearly two hour set featuring songs old and cherished mixed with new songs from Sweet Shivers. It was a perfect blend of crowd pleasers and new album energy. Avary never fails to put on an entertaining show and has an ability to cater to his long time fans as well as newcomers alike. While the home-state leg of the tour has come to a close in Texas, the tour continues on through the east coast before crossing to the midwest and wrapping up on the west coast before closing out the tour in Las Vegas.
