The world famous punk band, Misfits, made their way to The Theater Of The Living Arts in Philadelphia, PA on October 24th, in what felt like perfect timing with Halloween being just a few days away. 8pm doors opened and the crowd began pouring into the TLA. Misfits were supported by locals acts: GodDamnIt, The Holy Mess, & Private Instigators. The wardrobe of the crowd for the evening consisted of multiple generations of cut-up and personalized Misfits apparel, we saw t-shirts, vests, sweaters, hats and whatever else the bands logo and infamous skull head could go on & some dressed in Halloween costumes. Young and old fans were stoked to see the band, including one small child that was about 6 years old & was totally stoked to see the band!

GodDamnIt started off the night on a great note, a very pop punk filled set. This 5-piece  Post-Punk band from Philadelphia performing in front of a hometown crowd got the crowds bloods flowing and energy levels beginning to rise. The Holy Mess hitting the stage next, the 3 piece Philadelphia based band also performing to a hometown crowd filling the TLA, put on an exceptional energy filled set beginning slow and ending with a blood pumping performance.

Private Instigators, a 3-piece punk doo wop band as they offered a completely different style and sound compared to the other bands playing that night. Private Instigators had a oldies Doo-Wop feel along with the heavy punk rock feel to it. Not my usual sound but it was actually a very pleasant mix of music to hear together & a very unique genre of music that you typically do not see mixed together but the Private Instigators definitely proved that the mix up can happen & sound great! They’re very much throwback rock n roll with a modern twist to them. They have a great stage presence and energy on stage that shows not only through their music but it shows within the crowd as they had the entire venue of Misfits fans moving to the pleasant mix of Doo-Wop & Punk music! Definitely a great direct support choice for the misfits.

Finally after hundreds of beers were consumed, the venue filled even more, and a ton of Misfits merch was purchased. The time finally came for the legendary Misfits to take the stage at about 11:30pm. The TLA darkened and the crowd went wild. As the stage lit red, It felt like you were on the set of some crazy horror movie, or better yet on the set of a Misfits music video. The graveyard theme stage setup consisted of stones, skeletons & skeleton mic stands. All which were paired perfectly with the bands leather-spiked outfits and dead makeup. The night made for a perfect horror filled October evening and the New Jersey four piece proved why they have been such a legendary act as they came out with their powerful and spot on sound. The Misfits played everything that fans wanted to hear during their very lengthy set ending very late in the night/early am the next morning. Misfits are a legendary band you don’t want to miss if they tour near you & you should get out and see them!
