Team John Legend’s KJ Jennings and Samuel Harness faced off during Monday’s (Oct. 11) Battle Rounds on NBC’s The Voice.

Prior to their performance, the contestants received feedback and advice from GRAMMY award-winning superstar Camila Cabello, who is appearing as the Battle Round Advisor for Team Legend this season.

“I’m excited to hear their version,” Cabello admitted ahead of their performance.

Legend admitted that he is “excited” to hear their duet, as he believes the song will allow their unique personalities to shine.

Jennings and Harness absolutely crushed their sassy performance of Shawn Mendes and Cabello’s duet, “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” leaving the coaches thoroughly impressed.

Following their battle, each of the four coaches, Legend, Ariana Grande, Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton critiqued the round.

“She came in hot,” Grande gushed.

“I thought you did some really cool runs where I wouldn’t have chosen where you went,” Clarkson added of Jennings performance. “You’re definitely more pure sounding.” Clarkson then said Harness has “such a rock edge,” that is “really cool.”

“KJ, you both had your strengths and yours were in some of the runs and the rangey stuff that you were doing,” Shelton said. “But Samuel has that cool smokey sound like you just smoked a carton of cigarettes before you came out here. Is that your trick. I think based on your tone, that’s who I would pick.”

“This is so hard because Samuel I love your tone. I love your voice. You had one of my favorite blind auditions,” Grande praised Harness. “KJ, I don’t know that I was able to fully appreciate based on your blind audition what I just saw now come to life in a new way. Your runs were so precise, and I was like oh this diva’s… woah this is a plot twist, I don’t know… I would have to go with KJ, I think.”

“This the wild thing is that this song was written by Shawn and Camila as their first-ever collaboration before they were dating and the way you all connected… Like the chemistry it was great,” Legend exclaimed. “Like they really enjoyed performing together, that’s all I’m going to say. No pressure.”

“KJ you have great vocal technique, you have amazing runs. You come here with enthusiasm, with great energy, that big smile, it’s just magnetic,” Legend said. “Samuel you emotionally invest in the music that you’re singing. You sing with connection and passion, and you asserted yourself in the song in a way…

Harness won the Battle and advanced to the Knockout Rounds, where he will be mentored by Ed Sheeran, which will air later this month on NBC.

“I’m flabbergasted, I’m so excited,” Harness excitedly said with a big smile on his face.
