Sun & Flesh (Christoph Manuel, Stefan Reinberger, Matt Brewster, and Jonathan Serwinowsk) is a heavy metal band from Brooklyn, New York who knows how to get things done with some of the best in the game. They have worked with producer Dan Korneff, who is known for producing music with Breaking Benjamin, Paramore, Papa Roach and MORE! With the band’s original talent already in the mix, Dan was able to refine their approach and sharpen all of the edges.
Dan says, “The reason why I developed an early interest in this band is because the songs were so good. I can’t wait for people to hear what I hear.” Listening to the band’s latest single, “Dig In Deep,” you’ll hear a lot of 90’s grunge mixed with classic metal and alternative rock.
“I wrote “Dig in Deep” while going through a lot of personal turmoil,” says Christoph Manuel, vocalist/guitarist of Sun & Flesh. “I based the song on a rhythmic idea that misses the downbeat, much like someone not being able to find their footing. It was one of the very last songs written before going into the studio with Dan Korneff. The end of the song is like a light at the end of the tunnel, “I can go, they let me be – the realization that the only one holding me back is myself.””
With lyrics like, “Demons sleeping inside of me / They’re not what they used to be / Won’t be picking at scars again / I found it,” and “I found my way / These scars all have healed ’cos I let go and now I’m free,” Christoph successfully expressed exactly what he felt to his audience.
In the video for “Dig In Deep,” the band is surrounded by a group of women while performing in the library of a suburban house, but there are jarring switches between “normal” shots and disturbing imagery. As the music gets louder, the footage shown feels like it came out of a horror movie. Insects, monsters, entrails, and and gore is just some of what viewers are shown.
By the end of the video, even the women morphed into something not too innocent.
