Scotty McCreery Tributes The ‘King Of Country Music’ George Strait On Upcoming New Song “Damn Strait”

A song on Scotty McCreery’s upcoming new album will pay tribute to the King Of Country music, George Strait!

The North Carolina native recently announced his fifth studio album, Same Truck, which features a song called “Damn Strait,” one of only two songs on the 12-track record that McCreery didn’t write, however, McCreery knew when he heard the song that he had to cut it for the project as he admitted it was so him.

“For me, when I heard a song like ‘Damn Strait,’ I immediately raised my hand and said ‘me, me, me.’ It’s such a cool song, cleverly written and obviously I’m a massive George Strait fan, and so it just sounded so much like me,” McCreery recently told Everything Nash.

Despite the song not yet being released, the country superstar has already been performing the track during his live shows.

“God bless the king of country music y’all, how ’bout it George Strait,” McCreery said during a recent performance. “Tell you what, we’re all country music fans here, and that is the king so, I know everybody out there that loves country music has a George Strait story. They got a George Strait song that means something to them, take ’em back to a first dance, a first kiss, all those kinds of memories. My first country concert was George Strait, Reba McEntire and Lee Ann Womack. Started off good, we all have those stories.”

“We got a song on the next record… It’s just another one of them stories. The song’s called ‘Damn Strait,'” McCreery added during the clip, which was filmed during his July 30th concert in Ventura, CA, which you can watch below.

“Damn Strait you’re killing me man / you know I’ve always been your biggest fan / now I can’t even listen ’cause I’ll get to missing her / then the hurt gets worse / Damn Strait I used to love your songs / but now every time that one comes on / my heart gets broke in half / but do I wish I could get her back / Damn Strait,” McCreery sings in the chorus of the forthcoming new song.

During the song he also sings, “I know it ain’t your fault that she left me and you know that you’ll always be the king but right now I hate everything, Damn Strait.”

Co-written by Trent Tomlinson and Jim Collins, “Damn Strait” is set to appear on McCreery’s upcoming new album, Same Truck, which will be released on September 17.

The album is available for preorder now HERE and will feature his current Top 15 and climbing single “You Time” in addition to his recently released song “Why You Gotta Be Like That” and the title track “Same Truck.”

On the upcoming album, fans can expect to find the North Carolina native leaning into his country roots with his signature storyteller lyrics that focus on topics of life, love, and the current state of the world coupled with the traditional sounds of fiddle and pedal steel.

“I definitely think this is a little more, like I said earlier, back to my roots kind of country,” McCreery told Music Mayhem of the new album. “There’s going to be plenty of pedal steel on it, there’s gonna be some fiddle on it. They’re story-telling songs, which I think is what I do best. Everybody has their thing. For me, I think it’s telling stories, so I’m gonna be singing about my wife, I’m gonna be singing about life, the country life, the state of the world right now in a couple songs, so, you know, it’s just a very real album, I think.”

Additionally, McCreery is currently embarking on his headlining ‘You Time’ tour in addition to appearing on select dates of Old Dominion’s Ballpark Tour.
