Following a nearly sold-out first co-headlining tour announcement, Russell Dickerson kicked off the first night of his first-ever co-headlining “The Way Back” Tour with Carly Pearce in Cleveland, OH on Thursday night (photos in link). With temperatures in the low 20s across greater Cleveland, the Cleveland Scene reported that even Downtown Cleveland’s freezing cold temperatures couldn’t deter Russell and Carly from throwing the “party of a lifetime” on opening night.
Fans all over social media were buzzing about one particular moment during the concert, where Dickerson traded his signature guitar for the ivories, taking residence on a piano bench for a medley of songs that shaped his life. Justin Bieber’s “Baby,” Usher’s “U Got It Bad,” Tim McGraw’s “ She’s My Kind of Rain,” were all some of the songs sampled, and reviewed as the intimate part of the show that “felt more like your uncle’s back porch jam” than a production for thousands of people. The Cleveland Scenefurther added, “Within the course of an hour, Dickerson managed to create true intimacy and a club-like atmosphere.”
The 2018 ACM and CMT nominee recently celebrated back-to-back successes of his no. 1 debut and sophomore singles this year (“Yours,” “Blue Tacoma”), before embarking on the tour with friend and Big Machine Records’ breakout female Carly Pearce. Tickets for the remaining shows on The Way Back Tour in your_city are available.
“Carly and I go way, way back and we have cheered each other on for years,” Russell said about the tour. Adding, “Breaking onto the scene together has been such a fun ride, so we had to book a tour together to celebrate!”
Dickerson’s set list included his no. 1 hits “Yours” and “Blue Tacoma” which kept the packed room full of people singing along to every word.
