Rising country singer-songwriter Noah Hicks won’t release his new track “Making Up My Mind” until Friday (Aug. 26), but he has decided to share it one day early for readers of Music Mayhem in this exclusive premiere.
Penned with lauded songwriters Hunter Phelps, Will Bundy, and Jeremy Stover, this impassioned single finds Hicks showing off his affectionate side as he sings of his desires to stay close to someone that makes him feel like he is in “country boy heaven” or Las Vegas “rolling on sevens.” The excitement of being in the presence of someone he feels passionate about is so strong he is willing to cancel all of his plans.
“You’re looking like an angel in the morning light / With your halo hair and your kiss me eyes / Ain’t no way that I can say no / When you’re whispering baby, baby don’t go / Between laying right here and loving on you / Or slipping out the sheets slipping on my boots / I don’t even have to think twice / You’re pretty good at making up my mind,” Hicks sings throughout the chorus of the romantic song utilizing his warm and distinctive southern vocals over a rock-heavy beat.
Hicks didn’t write “Making Up My Mind” about anybody in particular. In fact, he wasn’t in a relationship when the idea for the song came about. The tune is rather an imaginative approach to what the Carrollton, GA native believes a relationship could entail.
“I’m sure a lot of people can relate to the revolving door of dating with dating apps and all that,” Hicks told Music Mayhem of the inspiration behind the track. “Honestly, I just got kind of tired of it. This song is basically what I’d love to have in a perfect world.”
“Making Up My Mind” arrives ahead of Hicks’ upcoming Tripping Over My Boots EP, slated for release on Friday (Sept. 30) via Red Creative Records. The 6-track project also features song titles: “Breaking Up & Getting Drunk,” “Creek Don’t Rise,” “Different Boots,” “Making Up My Mind,” “Tripping Over My Boots,” and “Back Home Buds.”
The forthcoming project follows his recently released, I Can Tell You’re Small Town EP.
Along with new music, Hicks has been keeping busy. He is scheduled to perform a series of live shows throughout the summer. In the fall, he will take the road as a supporting act on ERNEST’s headlining Sucker For Small Towns Tour, which kicks off on Oct. 6 in Birmingham, Ala.
