Mod Sun dropped his new album Internet Killed The Rockstar on Friday, February 12 and on the project is a song that he says was the “most difficult piece of art” he’s ever made.

The “Flames” singer shared that the song “Smith” on the new record pays tribute to his late father, Dennis Smith, who died last year in April.

“There’s a song on my album that I’ve only been able to listen to 3 times including the day I made it….” Mod Sun shared on Twitter ahead of the song’s release. “It’s a tribute to my father who passed away last year and it was the most difficult piece of art I’ve ever made… RIP Dennis Smith”

In the heart-wrenching new song Mod Sun sings, “I never thought I’d miss you / Now I got all of these issues, since you’re gone / You left without a warning / I was all alone that morning, you were gone.”

Additionally, Mod Sun previously told fans that he wouldn’t be who he is today without inspiration from his late father.

“I wouldn’t be me without him. He showed me the music that changed my life,” Mod Sun shared upon his dad’s passing on Facebook alongside an image of him. “He wore leather jackets and boots everyday. He taught me everything about Bob Dylan and I swear 5 minutes never went by without him making a joke. Tears pouring down my face while I look at this photograph cuz I know there ain’t never gonna be another Dennis Smith….he was it man. A true 1 of 1. I wish we had more time together but alcohol is a real mother fucker….i promise to make u proud. Until I see u again, “goodnight + goodbye.”

Internet Killed The Rockstar is a 11-track album and is available everywhere now via Big Noise. The project features his smash hit “Flames,” a song that features superstar Avril Lavigne.
