Miley Cyrus performed her emotion-filled song “Slide Away” for a live debut of the song since it’s released which came just five days after Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth announced their separation, which days later Hemsworth filed for divorce from the pop superstar. The performance also marks Cyrus’ first live appearance since the couple’s separation. This performance marked Cyrus’ third time on stage at the MTV VMAs, most recently hosting the show in 2015.
Cyrus was announced as a surprise addition to the album star-studded Video Music Awards performance lineup this morning, just hours ahead of the performance. The performance took place tonight (Aug. 26) onstage at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
Cyrus’ performance of “Slide Away” was a tear-jerking performance that was in black and white as Cyrus’ performed in her black mini skirt with a backing band and orchestra behind her. Starting the performance as a silhouette before stepping into the spotlight to sing the song about her unfortunate divorce that Cyrus is coping with through music and song with this fierce new emotion-filled song that we can see will soon become a radio hit. Ending her performance with a massive standing ovation which also seen her mom Tish and dad Billy standing to support their daughter.
