Mike Bruno is an artist who isn’t new to the music industry. Between being in a band (Honor Society) who has toured with artists like the Jonas Brothers and playing guitar for a ton of artists like Ed Sheeran and Pharrell on his own, Mike felt it was time to start his solo career after a well deserved mental break, and we couldn’t be more thrilled! We took the time to talk to Mike about his latest single “Real Love,” Jersey Shore (YES, the reality show!), Bruno Mars, Honor Society, touring, and more!

First of all, congrats on your new music! After being in the band Honor Society, what inspired you to come out with solo music now?

It sounds cliche but it just felt like it was time. I had a few false starts, but it finally felt right. I think I needed time away from Honor Society and the music business to find myself again and build my life outside of music before I felt like I had something to say. I’m realizing I really missed doing this.

What’s the thing about creating music that you missed the most?

I missed the whole process. Writing, recording, putting a song out, I really missed all of it!

What made you decide to pick “Real Love” as your first single? I personally love the lyrics/meaning behind it. The song instantly makes me smile every time I listen to it.

Thank you, that was definitely one of the goals! It was down to two songs and “Real Love” just felt like the best song to kick off my solo work. It felt like it could appeal to a new audience and also be something Honor Society fans would like.

To be specific, I love the line, “Time’s more precious than money.” What do you hope people learn from listening to “Real Love”?

Thanks, I love that line too. My wife went through some pretty scary health challenges at the beginning of the year and it really put everything in perspective for me. Time is our most valuable asset. Spend it wisely and on the right people.

Will you be coming out with a full length album, EP, or just a few songs here and there? If yes to any, are you able to hint to us when we’ll hear more?

I’m still figuring that out. I think it will probably be singles at first and maybe an EP down the line. I love the freedom I have at the moment so I want to try different ways of releasing music as it comes. I’m so fascinated by technology and music and the platforms we have to be able to release music it’s fun to get creative with it.

Are you interested in collaborating with any artist/s for a song? If so, who and why?

There are so many artists I would love to collaborate with. I really view myself as a new artist so I know I’ll have to earn that, but a side project with Bruno Mars called Mike Bruno Mars feels like it probably should happen.

You started the song with the lyrics, “We could watch Jersey Shore all day.” As a person who was born and raised in New Jersey, that was so relatable, because it’s all people used to talk about here when it first aired! What made you include that specific line in the song, and as the opening lyric?

I’m so glad you asked that. When my wife and I met we lived in LA and she introduced me to Jersey Shore. It sounds funny but I missed out on a lot of TV when Honor Society was grinding as hard as we were from 2009-2013. We both missed the east coast so much and she knew the show would make me feel like home. I felt really compelled to make the verses very personal and real, things that we lived. Real relationship stuff that wasn’t generic.

Are you looking to play any live shows anytime soon, to support your new music? If so, do you think we’ll hear some Honor Society songs in there as well?

I will play live when I have more songs out, for sure. I doubt I would play any Honor Society music to be honest. That music is best played by all four of us together

Do you have any advice for your fans who want to pursue a career in the music industry?

I’m thinking of starting a podcast or doing more content on this topic on my Tik Tok (@michaelxbruno) account. Stay tuned!
