Mickey Guyton Makes Her GRAMMYs Debut With ‘Black Like Me’ Performance

Mickey Guyton made her GRAMMYs performance debut with her single “Black Like Me” on Sunday, March 14.

Joined by an all Black choir, Guyton gave a stunning performance of the emotional track. The singer looked beautiful, adorned in a rose gold gown, as she belted out the lyrics to her single.

“My performance at the GRAMMYs is going to be so special and emotional,” Guyton shared prior to her performance. “Like it’s not just about me, the song ‘Black Like Me’ is so many peoples stories, and that was my goal in this performance. There’s representation as well, which is really important to me in this performance. But I just wanted people to feel like they’re coming together. This is a huge moment for black people in country music and I just feel so honored to stand in this shoes right now.”

Guyton is also a first-time nominee as her single “Black Like Me” is up for Best Country Solo Performance. The singer has already made history as the first Black woman ever to be nominated as a solo country artist.

“Getting my first GRAMMY nomination for ‘Black Like Me’ means the absolute world to me,” Guyton shared. “I have been pursuing music for a very, very, very long time. There were many times that I thought I was going to quit and my music journey didn’t change until I stopped running away from who I am really am, embracing who I really am and opening the door for other people that are marginalized and then that’s when my career turned around and this moment shows that.”

The 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards also featured performances from Bad Bunny, Miranda Lambert, Black Pumas, Cardi B, BTS, Brandi Carlile, DaBaby, Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, HAIM, Brittany Howard, Lil Baby, Maren Morris, Dua Lipa, Chris Martin, John Mayer, Megan Thee Stallion, Post Malone, Roddy Ricch, Harry Styles, and Taylor Swift.

Hosted by Trevor Noah, “Music’s Biggest Night” aired on Sunday, March 14 at 8:00 p.m. ET on CBS Television Network and also available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.
