After the success of our Mayhem Unplugged virtual music festivals including both the rock and country editions, We have decided to bring our readers a new series called, Mayhem Sessions, bringing fans acoustic videos.

Louisiana native, Payton Smith is heavily influenced by ’90s Country and Guitar Rock and has dreamt of playing his own brand of Country music since he first seen country superstar Keith Urban perform at the CMA Awards 14 years ago. Smith began doing just that with a series he called ‘It Started With A Song,‘ where he performed covers of artists that have indirectly helped shape his sound and artistry including the likes of Pearl Jam, Keith Urban, John Mayer, Luke Combs, Clint Black and George Strait.

Smith is proof that working hard, taking risks and finding just a little luck really does pay off. The singer, songwriter and self-taught guitarist performed on one of the smaller stages at the annual CMA Fest in 2018, his explosive performance not only amassed quite the crowd but it also stopped Big Machine Label Group’s Scott Borchetta in his tracks when walking by Smith’s performance that included original songs like “92” and “Like I Knew You Would” and his signature supercharged guitar solos, similar to something you would see at a rock show. Just a few weeks after this performance, Smith shared some demos with Borchetta and he was offered a record with Big Machine Label Group.

As he continues to make a name for himself, Smith continues to make waves including making his Opry debut earlier this year on February 22, after being invited by Opry Member Chris Young to perform on the iconic stage. The performance, so impressive, earned him not just one but two standing ovations.

The 20-year-old newcomer is a superstar in the making with his impressive guitar skills and vocal abilities. Smith has already unveiled his debut Self-Titled EP via Big Machine Label Group, which he co-wrote every song and is the sole guitar player on the EP, further cementing himself as the next country hitmaker.

Smith was slated to perform on Chris Young’s massive ‘Town Ain’t Big Enough World Tour‘ and at several major festivals this summer including Stagecoach in Indio, CA. However, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the events have been forced to be cancelled or postponed.
