Maroon 5 Set Fire to Super Bowl LIII with Pepsi Halftime Performance Featuring Special Guests Travis Scott, Big Boi

The Big Game is already well underway and while the game itself is running a bit on the slow side with a score of only 3-0 going into Half Time, Maroon 5 certainly kicked things into high gear with their incredible Half Time performance featuring a medley that included some of the band’s biggest hits including “Girls Like You”, “She Will Be Loved”, “Moves Like Jagger” and more!

Maroon 5 were also joined by rapper Travis Scott, who sadly had to be bleeped out a few times during his set, but with the NFL it is better safe than sorry as far as viewer censorship is concerned. Towards the end of their performance, Maroon 5 was also joined by rapper Big Boi, on half of the rap duo Outkast, who made his way to the stage via a large Cadillac to treat us with his song “I Like The Way You Move”.

Fans recently started an online petition to have Maroon 5 perform the song “Sweet Victory” in homage to SpongeBob SquarePants whose creator Stephen Hillenburg sadly passed away in November of last year at the age of 57. The band teased a bit of the song with a marching band that was introduced by SpongeBob character Squidward, but that was about all we got!  It was still a pretty awesome moment and a great way to show our respect to a cartoon legend.

We adored the visual elements of Maroon 5’s performance which included a ton of pyrotechnics, lighted lanterns and lighted stage shaped like a large letter “M”. They did a fantastic job!

There was some controversy surrounding Maroon 5’s appearance with many requesting that the band pull out of the Pepsi-sponsored Half Time show due to the NFL’s reaction to the Colin Kaepernick National Anthem protest. It is rumored that both Rihanna and P!NK turned down the big gig.

Maroon 5 frontman, Adam Levine, acknowledged he had to think about the ramifications of taking part in the halftime after performers such as Rihanna and Pink reportedly turned down the invitation. The band and Travis Scott have agreed to contribute money to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and Dream Corps to coincide with their appearances.
