Maroon 5 brought their highly-anticipated Red Pill Blues Tour to Philadelphia on Friday, October 12th, 2018 for an evening of impactful music, powerful vocals, and hit songs with special guest Julia Michaels.
Opening the evening was Republic Records own, Julia Michaels, who put on a fierce set. Michaels and Maroon 5 have a history together as Michaels has joined Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine in the studio to assist in the writing of several Maroon 5 songs on the new record including “Lips On You,” and “Help Me Out.” Closing out her set with her chart-topping radio sensation single “Issues,” fans seemingly knew all the words to this single and every other song during her set, especially notable on this song and “Uh Huh.” Her set consisted of 7 songs, 1 of which was a melody of songs she has written during her unfortunately short 30-minute set. Michaels performed songs she wrote for herself as well songs she has written for others as mentioned like Justin Bieber’s “Sorry,” Selena Gomez’s “Bad Liar” & “Good For You,” as well as Hailee Steinfeld’s “Love Myself” and Gwen Stefani’s “Used To Love You.” Her entire set spotlighted her work as a songwriter whilst she threw in some of her own tunes from her major label debut album, Nervous System. Michael sported a sparkly pink dress with matching Converse Chuck Taylor’s which she rocked rather well.
Grammy award winning band, Maroon 5 exploded onto the stage after a brief comedic video to the lead single “What Lovers Do” from their latest album, Red Pill Blues (Nov. 3rd, 2017).Their setlist spanning throughout the longevity of their career including songs from their debut studio album, Songs For Jane through their fifth studio album, V to their latest record, Red Pill Blues. Maroon 5 powered through a plethora of hit songs during their 2-hour performance like “Payphone,” “This Love,” “Sunday Morning,” “Animals,” “Harder to Breathe,” and “One More Night.”
Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine working their V-shaped stage as if it were his own personal catwalk throughout the entire length of their set using each and every crevice of the stage as his own. Levine wearing jeans, a black t-shirt and sporting his sleeves of tattoos as he rolled up his sleeves showcasing his tatted up biceps, confidently flaunting what he’s got for all the ladies in the crowd to enjoy throughout his entire performance. Levine was even shredding through some songs with added-on guitar solos for some songs which made for an extra special rockin’ part of their set. The sound was full, clear, and had a perfect instrumental from the band with Levine’s falsetto vocals overpowering above it all, especially notable during “Sugar.” Levine even shouted out opener Julia Michaels, thanking her for being apart of the tour and for being such a talented act on the tour.
A highlight of their set would definitely include Maroon 5’s cover of Michael Jackson’s “Rock With You” that was complete with a giant disco ball, making the sold out crowd sparkle. Ending their set with “Moves Like Jagger” before returning to the stage for their 3-song encore which included “She Will Be Loved,” “Sugar” and a melody that blended a cover of “Forever Young” and “Girls Like You.” We highly recommend checking out a Maroon 5 show if they happen to tour near you or check them out when they perform at the Superbowl this coming year!
