Luke Combs met his wife Nicole Hocking back in 2016, then proposed to her two years later in 2018 before marrying her in August 2020.
The country superstar has detailed his love for Hocking in several of his songs including “Beautiful Crazy,” “Better Together” his latest “Forever Ever All” and many more. However, today in an Instagram Q&A, Combs shared how the couple met and how he proposed to her.
Upon being asked “Where did you and Nicole meet,” the singer said that it was in “2016 at the Key West Songwriters Festival.” Combs met his beautiful bride before his career began to soar and according to Country Fancast, the couple seen each other across a crowd of people and Nicole asked him to join her and her friends.
“We were both attending the Key West Songwriters Festival in 2016. Met there and began sating shortly thereafter,” Combs explained.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Combs admitted that when they met, he was still trying to make it as a musician and hadn’t yet has his “big break.” However, after their relationship began to take off, the superstar wrote the chart-topping hit “Beautiful Crazy,” which was inspired by his then girlfriend. He also revealed that he wrote the song before their considered their relationship “official” and admitted that it earned him some serious brownie points with her.
As their relationship continued to build, Hocking became Combs’ muse for writing hit songs about her.
The star had a very unique idea of how he wanted to propose to Nicole but unfortunately it didn’t go down as planned and instead he proposed to her on one knee in their kitchen in 2018 but they waited to share the news publicly until they went to Hawaii and got some beautiful photos to accompany their announcement.
“She said yes a while ago but this is a way better place to take pictures than the kitchen,” Combs captioned the announcement photo. “Can’t wait to spend forever with you @nicohocking I Love You! #Mahalo.”
In an Instagram Q&A on Sunday (Oct. 25), Combs told fans how he planned to propose but it ended up not working out.
“Well, I was planning to put the ring on Nicole’s cat’s collar and it jump in her lap when she got to our new house,” Combs began to explain. “but the cat had an accident on the way, so I ended up getting down on one knee and just telling Nicole what I was ‘going’ to do.”
