Grammy nominated country star Dierks Bentley’s passion for bluegrass shines through in his newest track, “High Note,” featuring Billy Strings

The witty collaboration with Billy Strings features the legendary Jerry Douglas on dobro, Sam Bush playing the mandolin and Billy Strings and Bryan Sutton as guest guitar stars. The super-jam about weed gives fans a taste of what to expect from Bentley’s forthcoming tenth studio album, arriving in early 2023.

“If they ever drop the big one, I got me a plan/ I won’t be in no bunker eatin’ peaches from a can/ I’ll be holed up in the basement with two very special guests/ A big ol’ stack of Flatt and Scruggs and a bag of Willie’s best,” sings Bentley in the first verse. Strings joins Dierks for the chorus as the pair belt the lyrics, “Goin’ out on a high note/ A blaze of glory lit in my left hand/ I’m goin’ out on a high note/ Like a tenor in an old hillbilly band.”

In addition to sharing the new song, Bentley and Strings also released a music video for the tune, which was filmed at The Station Inn.

“Bryan Sutton first tipped me off to Billy Strings about seven years ago mentioning that the future of bluegrass was in good hands,” said Bentley. “I was totally blown away the first time I saw him. I’ve cut songs like these since my first record, and I knew I wanted to have him on this one, I’m such a huge fan. It was a lot of fun to have him, Jerry, Sam and Bryan all passing licks around…having them all on this record means a lot to me personally.”

“If it was my last day on earth, I would want to be at the Station Inn with two of the greatest musicians I know: Billy Strings and Sam Bush,” Dierks joked in an Instagram video. When prompted by Dierks, Sam answered, “I just want to be with you Dierks,” while Strings chimed in, “I’d be out on my boat trying to catch a 10 pounder.”

Produced by the “Drunk On A Plane” singer with Ross Copperman, Jon Randall and F. Reid Shippen, the track follows the lead single off of his yet-to-be released album Gold. Dierks released “Gold” earlier this year, setting the tone for his 10th LP.

The CMA award-winning artist wrapped up his Beers On Me Tour with special guests including Ashley McBryde and Travis Denning. The stint kicked off on May 27, 2022 in Welch, MN at the Treasure Island Resort & Casino and wrapped up on September 11 at the Adams Center in Missoula, MT. The trek hit major cities including Atlanta, Dallas, Nashville and more.

Earlier this year, Bentley also hosted a successful third run of Seven Peaks, his three-day music festival. Set among the breathtaking views of Villa Grove, CO in the San Luis Valley, the event featured a stacked lineup with artists including Morgan Wallen, Tracy Lawrence, Ashley McBryde, HARDY and more.
