On Friday (Feb. 11), Conor Maynard released a new song called “Dance With Somebody,” which finds Maynard honoring the late Whitney Houston with a reimagined version of her iconic single, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.”
The fast rising singer, known for his mesmerizing covers on social media and his signature vocal abilities, shared his rendition of Houston’s hit which transforms the chart-topping track into a somber, melancholic pop-ballad.
The gentle piano chords, reminiscent of Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved,” truly allow the English singer’s signature vocals to be put on full display. His pitch-perfect vocals pair flawlessly with the piano, making for the perfect somber tune.
“From doing covers for such a large part of my career, I’m incredibly aware of the power of familiarity and how people’s favorite songs can make them feel nostalgic as well as bring them mixed emotions”, Maynard said.
Maynard continued, “I always felt the chorus of ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ had melancholic undertones. I was dealing with a situation where I wanted to be out with my friends and dancing with people, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it at the time. This track captures that somber feeling.”

“Dance With Somebody” follows Maynard’s latest single “What I Put You Through,” a viral track, which you can hear below, that has gone on to amass 12+ million streams.
In March 2020, having spent a decade signed to a major label and achieving global success, Maynard stepped out on his own as an independent artist. This 29-year-old’s prior accomplishments need little introduction; Maynard’s debut album, Contrast, secured a No. 1 in the UK charts, and produced five top ten singles in the UK.
The project also catapulted him to international stardom, with his YouTube channel alone boasting 12.5 million subscribers and 2.5 billion views and counting daily.
As an independent artist, Maynard has continued to break new grounds. In 2021, his global fan base continued to grow at an extraordinary pace. In just one year, Maynard racked up over 300 million streams across Spotify and Apple Music, with his recent ballad “What I Put You Through” having millions of plays.
Reinvigorated and re-energized, this year looks to be even bigger and exciting for the chart-topping singer, who seems to just be getting started.
