After topping the U.K. Official Singles chart for a nearly unprecedented seven weeks, Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in its 24th consecutive week on the tally and the first No. 1 single from a debut U.K. artist since February 2016. In addition, the single is No. 1 on the U.S. Top 40 Radio chart for the third week running, spent 5 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot AC Radio chart, No. 1 on the U.S. Shazam chart for the eighth consecutive week and hit top 5 on the U.S. Spotify chart. Worldwide streams of the track are approaching two billion. Already certified Platinum by the RIAA, “Someone You Loved” has now earned over 2.5 million equivalent song units in the U.S. It is certified Platinum or greater in a total of 18 countries. Capaldi will perform the song on nationally-syndicated morning talk show “Live with Kelly and Ryan” on November 15th.
Following his sold out fall headline tour of North America, Capaldi will join as a special guest on Niall Horan’s 2020 Meet You There world tour. Tickets for the first leg of the tour go on sale today at 10:00 AM local time. The North American run which also features fellow label mate FLETCHER, will kick off on April 20, 2020 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN at Barclays Center in New York (April 29) and The Forum in Los Angeles (May 18). The 23-year-old Scottish singer-songwriter recently performed on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” He made his U.S. late night television debut on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” in June. The following week, he performed “Someone You Loved” on “The Late Late Show with James Corden” and, in a first for the show, Corden invited Capaldi back to perform for a second night in a row. Capaldi’s March 2020 tour of the UK and Ireland sold out in mere seconds, making him the first artist in history to sell out arenas prior to the release of a debut album.
Capaldi’s debut album, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, is the fastest selling UK debut of 2019 with 90,000 albums sold in the first week. To date, it has sold over 1.5 million adjusted albums worldwide and combined global streams now exceed 2.6 billion.
Last month, Capaldi released the four-track Bruises EP, which includes the album version of “Bruises” plus a Live Orchestral Version, a guitar acoustic and the Steve Void Remix. Watch the official video for “Bruises” HERE. After Capaldi self- released “Bruises” two years ago, he became the fastest unsigned artist to reach 25 million plays on Spotify.
Robert Christgau reviewing for Noisey, awarded Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent an A- and hailed it as “a feat of uncommon emotional intelligence.” The Los Angeles Times says, “Capaldi uses his powerful chest voice to reach the cheap seats. In the weathered grain of his singing, you can hear a performer capable of turning pain into beauty.” Stereogum declares, “Capaldi is establishing himself as a Stateside force…sending shivers down millions of spines whenever he switches into performance mode,” TIME says, “Lewis Capaldi has the kind of deep, textured voice that you could listen to for hours,” and the Associated Press raves, “Capaldi’s album (hits) you in the gut with piercing lyrics anchored by his gravelly voice…packed with emotion and passion.”
