Kelly Clarkson Wipes Tears Away After Carly Pearce Performs ’29’ On ‘The Voice’

Newly crowned CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Carly Pearce made a quick trip to the West Coast to perform on The Voice semi-finals on Tuesday evening (Dec. 7).

The superstar took to The Voice stage in front of a live audience – and coaches Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, Ariana Grande and John Legend –  to perform “29,” the title track of her projects 29 and 29: Written In Stone

Pearce, who sported a gorgeous, sky blue gown adorned with a pearl embellished belt, opened The Voice with a breathtaking performance of the emotional song. Pearce even had Clarkson in tears as she sang the emotional lyrics.

“The year that I got married and divorced/ Held on for dear life but I still fell off the horse/ From a Miss to Mrs./ Then the other way around/ The year I was goin’ live it up/ Now I’m never going to live it down,” she sings on the song, which she co-wrote Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne following her highly publicized divorce.

Perhaps Clarkson, who also got divorced in 2020, can relate to the song.

Either way, Pearce made country music proud with her The Voice debut and had fans gushing over her flawless vocals.

“THAT WAS EVERYTHING I LOVE U FEMALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR,” wrote one Twitter user, while another shared, “@carlypearce was beyond fantastic tonight on @NBCTheVoice !! She’s everything wonderful! Red heart the voice, the look, the heart!!”

Ahead of the show, Pearce shared her excitement for the opportunity to perform.

“Every single person who’s ever tried out, ever made it to the next round, I know everything about how you feel,” she said. “The anticipating, the hope – and then no matter which way it falls, the amount of emotion you feel. You have to really take hold of your dreams to do something like this, and I think the world of each and every brave heart who’s taken the plunge and put it out there. This is a big deal… and I am honored to be able to be a tiny part of this show.”

Pearce recently wrapped her The 29 Tour and will enjoy some downtime over the next few weeks. In 2022, the Grand Ole Opry member is set to join Kenny Chesney on the Here & Now Tour.
