18-year-old Benson Boone of Monroe, WA earned a golden ticket to Hollywood during the season premiere of American Idol.
On Sunday (Feb. 14), Boone played piano while performing a cover of Aidan Martin’s “Punchline,” that had the judges swooning over him.
“You have a natural talent,” Lionel Richie said.

“They’re going to swoon over Benson Boone,” Katy Perry gushed. “I see you winning American Idol if you want it.”

The self-taught singer has amassed 1.2 million TikTok followers. After starting several trends on the social media platform, Boone earned viral success with his singing videos.
Boone, a 2020 graduate of Monroe High School and the middle child of five, attended Brigham Young University-Idaho in the fall of 2020 but he is taking this semester off to pursue his musical career on social media with some help from American Idol.
