With the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks providing fireworks at the end of the first half of Super Bowl XLIX, Katy Perry brought some too, literally. The mega-pop star showed off her unique style and talent at the Pepsi Super Bowl halftime show, performing a medley of her biggest hits that ended with one of her biggest hits Firework, which came complete with pyrotechnics and Perry rising stories above the field to sing the song, while being flown over the crowd on what appeared to be a shooting star. Pepsi, the show’s sponsor, was heavily involved throughout, with on-field participants holding up lighted balls to make the soda brand’s logo at the start of the show. Fans in the stands got involved too, waving blue & red light sticks. It felt more like an Opening Ceremony to a major award show rather than The Super Bowl pepsi halftime show, which is a major achievement for a 13-minute show in the middle of a football game.

Katy Perry Roared into her set riding an animatronic transformer looking lion and wearing a dress of fire to perform her hit single Roar. She then quickly transitioned into Dark Horse, a performance highlighted by a 3D looking floor on the Super Bowl field that appeared to make the turf turn into different shapes and sizes, like a chessboard. Perry then made a wardrobe change for as incredible yet very cartoonish rendition of Teenage Dream.

Katy Perry plowed through her collection of hits with the help of some special guests, Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliott.  “California Gurls,” was quickly performed before Perry brought another guest, Missy Elliott to the stage; the veteran rapper tore through “Get Ur Freak On” and “Work It” as Perry played hype-woman while wearing a custom Super Bowl 49 jersey. Perry disappeared briefly as Missy Elliott performed “Lose Control,” and returned sporting a sparkling gown for the finale of “Firework.”.  Rising from the middle of the field on a tiny platform, Perry circled the stadium and waved to the adoring crowd during the climatic performance. There were glowing orbs on the field, and of course, fireworks exploding around Perry as she delivered the empowerment anthem. It was a fittingly explosive ending to a fiery performance, one that serves as a career highlight for the pop superstar. Great show Katy Perry!
