Female vocalist Kacey Musgraves has been off the country music radar for quite some time – but now, the “Golden Hour” songstress is back and better than ever.
Musgraves recently released her fourth studio album, Star-Crossed, on Friday, September 10. To go along with the 15-track collection, the megastar also dropped a 50-minute film directed by Bardia Zeinali. Star-Crossed might be one of Musgraves most vulnerable projects to date, as it reveals her mixed emotions that she has consumed since the divorce from country singer Ruston Kelly.

“I wasn’t going to be a real country artist without at least one divorce under my belt,” the star told the New York Times. The beloved songstress left her heart and soul on the writing table with co-producers and writers Ian Fitchuk and Daniel Tashian. The group recorded the breakup record in just three weeks in Nashville. According to a release, the long-form project that was produced in a blink of an eye serves as “an extremely personal journey of heartache and healing.”
The Star-Crossed film, streaming now on Paramount +, matches the album’s harsh, yet dreamy lyrics. The film is split up into three acts, which were used to help fans visualize the rollercoaster-like emotions that she has tirelessly faced throughout the years. Musgraves turns into a strong and independent woman towards the end of the production, as her costume designs and straightforward lyrics represent new beginnings.
On the heels of the action-packed film and heart-wrenching record, Musgraves brought her talents to the MTV Video Music Awards. The 33-year-old artist took the stage at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn to sing her title track “Star-Crossed.”

During the MTV VMAs debut, she wore a beautiful white dress. While serving music-goers a breathtaking look, she showcased her wide vocal range in front of burning candles and neon hearts.
The live performance of the chart-topping track won’t be her last, as she is set to kick-start her star-crossed: unveiled tour in North America on January 19 in St. Paul, MN. The country music powerhouse will be bringing down the house at Madison Square Garden in New York on February 5, and Bridgestone Arena in music city come February 11. Musgraves will wrap up her time out on the road on February 20 in Los Angeles. However, she will be traveling overseas to perform at the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona, Spain.
