Jennifer Lopez honored her mom with a performance of Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” at ‘Vax Live.’
On Saturday, May 8, Lopez led a massive sing-a-long alongside her mom Guadalupe Rodríguez at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
“We’re all here in the same room,” Lopez exclaimed as she entered the stadium stage and after an emotion-filled statement explaining how she hasn’t gotten to spend much time with her mom this year due to the ongoing global health crisis, the singer chose to perform the classic ’70s hit by Diamond, a song which she explained her mother used to sing to her as a baby but changing the lyric to “sweet Jennifer.”
“You know I didn’t even get to spend Christmas with my mom this year,” Lopez explained. “First time in my whole life, we’ve been away too long but she’s here with me tonight and she’s vaccinated,” Lopez shared. “When I was thinking about what song to sing tonight, I remembered the song she used to sing to me when I was baby,”
In the midst of her stunning performance, the award-winning singer brought welcomed her mom to the stage to finish out the song with her.
“Mommy, come out here,” Lopez said before exclaiming “everybody give it up for Lupe.” Then, her mom explained that when she used to rock her as a baby she would sing “sweet Jennifer.”

Later in the show, the superstar kept with the theme of Mother’s Day and performed “Ain’t Your Mama” which kept the crowd singing and dancing along.
