Janelle Monae opened the 2020 Oscars with a Mr. Rodgers themed musical performance, with special guest Billy Porter. Her performance was nothing short of spectacular with her impeccable vocals and her superstar abilities to grasp a crowds attention and mesmerize. Monae even got stars like Leonardo DiCaprio singing along with her during the performance.
Monae celebrated women during her performance but also the LGBTQ community with a stab at the Academy as no women were nominated this year for Best Director, as she said “Tonight, we celebrate all the amazing talent in this room, We celebrate all the women who directed phenomenal films and I’m so proud to stand here as a black, queer artist, telling stories. Happy Black History Month.”
She even gave a shoutout to some of the year’s best movies that were snubbed from being nominated.
