Known for his chart-topping hits and time on the small screen, Jake Owen is set to make his official acting debut in the upcoming feature film “The Friend,” currently filming in Fairhope, Alabama (where the story took place). Owen joins Jason Segel (“How I Met Your Mother”), Dakota Johnson (“Fifty Shades of Grey”) and Academy Award-winning actor Casey Affleck (“Manchester by the Sea”). The film also stars Gwendoline Christie (“Game of Thrones”), Denee Benton (“Hamilton: An American Musical”) and Tony and Emmy Award-winning actor Cherry Jones (“Boy Erased”).

Directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite (“Blackfish”) with a screenplay by Brad Ingelsby, the film is based on writer Matthew Teague’s award-winning essay, “The Friend: Love is Not a Big Enough Word,” a true-story account first published in the May 2015 issue of Esquire about his terminally ill wife and the support of his best friend, who moves into their home following the diagnosis. The film is being produced by Scott Free Productions (“The Martian”) and Black Bear Pictures (“The Imitation Game”). Additional details on the role and film’s release are forthcoming.

The multi-Platinum entertainer recently announced the release of his latest full-length studio album, GREETINGS FROM…JAKE, out March 29 on Big Loud Records, hinting at additional entertainment projects to come. With more than 3.4 billion global career streams to date, Owen’s versatile talent continues to set the bar for anthem country with seven #1 hits.

The ACM Award-nominated singer/songwriter’s current Top 10-and-climbing single, “Down To The Honkytonk,” follows Owen’s seventh career #1, “I Was Jack (You Were Diane).” The John-Mellencamp inspired homage was also was also his first #1 single for Big Loud Records. Written by Rodney Clawson, Luke Laird and Shane McAnally, “Down To The Honkytonk” features Owen’s “deep country timbre that’d make singers of two decades ago proud” (Taste Of Country) and marks the Florida-native’s fastest-rising career single to date. GREETINGS FROM…JAKE is the follow-up to Owen’s AMERICAN LOVE album, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart and No. 4 on theBillboard 200 all-genre chart. The new album reunites Owen and producer Joey Moi, who produced some of Owen’s biggest hits to date, including “Barefoot Blue Jean Night,” “Alone with You” and “Beachin’.”
