Hozier Stuns with Sold Out ‘Wasteland Baby!’ Tour at Grand Ole Opry in Nashville

On Sunday, March 24th, singer/songwriter Hozier brought his North American headlining tour to the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, TN. In celebration of his sophomore album, Wasteland, Baby!, fans sold out the show pretty quickly, almost immediately after on-sales, eager to hear their favorite songs. Kicking off his set with “Would That I,” Hozier set the tone for his high energy performance. We already knew this was going to be an amazing show but he made sure to remind us of that throughout the evening. With gorgeous blue, red, green and orange tones flooding the stage Hozier and band brought the house down with gospel-like rock paired with his incredible vocals. Almost every song closed with a solid silhouette before fading to black.

Playing songs such as “Dinner & Diatribes,” “Someone New” and “From Eden,” fans passionately sang along with the artist, feeling and expressing every word. Explaining “Wasteland,Baby!” from which his new album is named after, Hozier said, “I was writing love songs for the end of the world.” The stage was painted in magenta with deep blue hues as spotlights came down upon him. Behind the band was a massive backdrop image of what looked like lit windows of a home. I think it added a more intimate feel to the atmosphere of the show, making his soaring vocals really resonate with fans in the Mother Church.

“To Be Alone” brought the intensity, especially with the drums. Everytime they hit, the lights would respond with a burst. Following the band’s high energy the crowd was clapping, snapping, singing and dancing along to “Common Tongue.” We also love and definitely feel that it is notable, that Hozier had so many talented female artists within his band, spotlighting some female empowerment within his band. He explained that a few of them were local to Nashville which is a great way to promote and celebrate local talent.

The show was so amazing from the aesthetics to the atmosphere radiating throughout the room, to Hozier’s flawless, emotion-filled vocals. If you are a Hozier fan you know you will not be disappointed and if you are not already a fan, you NEED to see this show and I promise you that you will be after attending his tour. Hozier is touring through end of November with hardly a break, and he is sure to come to a city near you soon! Check out his website for his upcoming tour dates, HERE.
