Elton John was honored as the iHeartRadio Icon at the 2021 iHeartRadio Music Awards.

Following a brief comical introduction by ColdPlay’s Chris Martin and a video of John’s career that included several celebrity appearances such as Lady Gaga and more. Lil Nas X appeared after the video to introduce a tribute performance by H.E.R., Demi Lovato and Brandi Carlile.

John earned a standing ovation upon entering the stage to accept the high honor.

“Thank you so much to iHeartRadio for honoring me this way. Thank you to H.E.R., Demi Lovato, and Brandi Carlile for paying tribute to me, Lil Nas X and Chris Martin,” John began. “I’m very humbled.”

“I just want to say a special thanks to Lil Nas X because he is a wonderful artist and has balls of steel,” John gushed of Lil Nas X. “It’s so wonderful to see live people as Chris Martin said. Thank you for all your loyalty and love, thank you so much!”

The 2021 iHeartRadio Awards also featured performances from The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars & Anderson.Paak), Dan + Shay, Usher and Doja Cat.

In addition to the performers, the iHeartRadio Awards included a star-studded list of special appearances from LL Cool J, Chris Martin, Lil Nas X, Nelly, Machine Gun Kelly, French Montana, Lil Jon, Robin Thicke, Joel McHale, Oliver Stark, Ryan Guzman, Gabby Barrett, Ava Max, Raphael Saadiq, AJR, Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Roddy Ricch, twenty one pilots as well as Megan Thee Stallion.
