DMX Dead At Age 50 Following Heart Attack Caused By Overdose
DMX, also known as Earl Simmons, dead at age 50 following heart attack caused by overdose.
A rep for DMX told TMZ, “We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50 years old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days. Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end.” The statement continued, “He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.”
The iconic 50-year-old rapper was hospitalized on Friday, April 2 following a drug overdose that occurred at his New York home at 11PM, according to TMZ. The outlet also reported that “the overdose triggered a heart attack,” which turned fatal days later.
The “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem” singer was rushed to the hospital in White Plains, New York and was in the critical care unit upon arrival. According to information obtained by TMZ sources, the rapper had “some brain activity” and was in a “vegetative state” with doctors cautioning that he may not make it.
DMX has battled substance abuse for several years and has been in and out of rehab multiple times.
