Darius Rucker and Old Crow Medicine show joined forces for a performance of “Wagon Wheel” during NBC’s Grand Ole Opry: 95 Years of Country Music special on Sunday (Feb. 14).
The spirited performance showcased the artists together on the iconic stage of the Grand Ole Opry in celebration of its 95th anniversary. Rucker and members of Old Crow Medicine Show teamed up to give new life to the beloved tune in which brought them both massive success.
Parts of “Wagon Wheel” were originally written by Bob Dylan in 1973. Old Crow Medicine Show’s Keith Secor added verses to the unfinished song 25 years later. It was released by the band in 2004 and re-recorded and re-released by Rucker in 2013.
Grand Ole Opry: 95 Years of Country Music also featured performances from Kelsea Ballerini, Dierks Bentley, Garth Brooks, Kane Brown, Lady A, Little Big Town, Little Big Town, Old Crow Medicine Show, Brad Paisley, Dolly Parton, Darius Rucker, Blake Shelton, Marty Stuart, Carrie Underwood and Trisha Yearwood.
The show also gave fans a look back at some of the most iconic performances in Opry history and showcased archived Opry interview and performance footage from today’s Opry members and legendary artists.
Additionally, the two-hour special also included star-studded collaborations from Carrie Underwood with Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley and Marty Stuart, Vince Gill featuring Reba McEntire and more.
Hosted by Brad Paisley and Blake Shelton, Grand Ole Opry: 95 Years of Country Music aired on Sunday, February 14 at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
