It is with the deepest sadness that we share the news that country singer Granger Smith and his wife Amber’s three-year-old son River Kelly Smith has died as the result of a tragic accident.
Granger Smith and his family have released the following statement commenting on the tragic incident saying:
I have to deliver unthinkable news. We’ve lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith. Following a tragic accident, and despite doctor’s best efforts, he was unable to be revived. Amber and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life. Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father. Riv was special. Everyone that met him knew that immediately. The joy he brought to our lives cannot be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts. If there are words to say more, I cannot find them in this moment. Love the ones close to you. There has never been a more difficult moment for us than this.
Thank you,
Granger Smith
In lieu of sympathies, the family asks that donations be made in the name of River Kelly Smith to Dell Children’s Medical Center in River’s name. The doctors, nurses, and staff have been incredible.
Smith’s wife, Amber, shared the heartbreaking news on social media as well with a photo of her holding her baby boy, who had just celebrated his third birthday in May.
“Nothing can prepare a mother to deliver this kind of news,” she wrote alongside the family’s statement.
The couple is also parents to son Lincoln, 5, and daughter London, 7. There has been no additional information released about what type of accident occurred and we are certain that the family would like their privacy during this incredibly difficult time.
Our sincere condolences go out to the Smith’s, as well as, their family and close friends during this incredibly difficult time.
