Cassadee Pope, Lindsay Ell and Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild dropped a brand new single, “What The Stars See.”

On Friday, May 7, Pope and Fairchild’s vocals blended flawlessly over an infectious pop-rock instrumental with some impressive guitar riffs from Ell. The new song is reminiscent of Pope’s pop-punk band, Hey Monday, which formed in 2008 and spawned hits like “How You Love Me Now” and “Homecoming.” In the new single, “What The Stars See,” the singer perfectly blends her pop-punk/rock roots with solo country sound, creating a genre of her own, that maybe we could call country-punk.

“I really did some reflecting last year, like everybody i’m sure, and what I stumbled upon is I know that pop punk/pop rock music is just as much a part of my musical makeup as country music,” Pope explained on Instagram. “And instead of trying to water down either or, i’ve decided i’ll just blend them and i’ve created something that i’m so proud of and I just feel so authentic doing.”

The Nick Wheeler and Fairchild produced track, “What The Stars See,” was co-written by Pope alongside Jake Rose and Lindsey Rimes.

“I was inspired to write ‘What The Stars See’ after sitting outside one night looking up at the stars, curious what their perspective might be looking down on us,” Pope explained of the track. “It made me think back to times in my life when I had just come out of a relationship but still felt so connected to the other person. I imagined having the superpower to be among the stars and observe, from their perspective, an ex moving on with their life (or not).”

In a recent Instagram video, Pope teased that “there’s more where this came from,” so stay tuned for more new music from Pope in the near future.

Additionally, Pope is gearing up to share a Blade Runner-esque music video for the track on May 14, directed by Ed Pryor, that will include her collaborators Fairchild and Ell.
