CAIN (Jacob Anthony Cain) is a 22-year-old New York based alternative alternative/rock/electro-pop artist who just released a musically adventurous new single “My Mind,” with an important message.
With lyrics like “The rebels and misfits are breaking you out / Lying as you stand there, nothing but a blank stare / Throwing out the key to your soul,” and “Take your hands off your ears can you hear me? / Can you hear me? In my mind, my mind, it’s you and me,” the song is all about trying to save someone from a world that’s falling apart.
“I was frustrated about the way things have been going in America in politics, pop culture, and the media in general, and I wrote this song about trying to get someone to basically wake up and rescue them from the grasp of the system,” says Jacob.
But “My Mind” isn’t just about waking someone up, it’s about Jacob feeling that we can be better in this world. And don’t worry Jacob, we totally agree with you. It isn’t just in your mind.
The funny thing is, Jacob never really saw himself doing music. He grew up thinking he was just going to be an actor, (which he still is) but he figured he’d follow more than one dream, because why not? And we’re glad that he did. It took him being rejected from an acting role to discover that music could be his other passion.
“I decided that nobody can take away music from you, where as with acting you have to get cast,” says Jacob. “I decided to take matters into my own hands and create opportunity for myself. It’s taught me that if you want something in life, you just gotta go after it. After all, life is short.”
What’s cool about CAIN’s music is the fact that he likes to mix a few of his influences into his music. He incorporates elements of rock, hip hop, and electro-pop to craft his own alternative sound.
If you love bands like Twenty One Pilots, Panic! at the Disco, The Driver Era, and/or Yungblud, you may love CAIN’s music.
