Broken Barricade Causes Knotfest Mexico Cancellation! Fans Storm Stage And Destroy Gear!

Things quickly turned chaotic when a barricade was broken during Knotfest Mexico and fans began storming the stage and destroying already set up equipment. Headliners and festival founders Slipknot were slated to headline the show on November 30th to close out Knotfest Mexico 2019, which was the latest city to be added to their highly successful traveling festival. The band also recently revealed that they will soon be taking Knotfest to sea with a planned cruise in 2020.

It wasn’t long before #Knotfest was trending on Twitter due to the fans’ reaction to the cancellation of the festival due to the broken barricade and began wreaking havoc storming the stage and destroying equipment, which included a lot of Evanescences gear. There was one video in particular that showed up on social media that appeared to show Evanescences drum kit being set on fire. The barricade was broken during metal band Behemoth’s set.

Many fans also took to Twitter to express their disappointment with the behavior of their fellow concert attendees with some saying, “It literally breaks my heart to see @evanescence equipment being destroyed at #knotfest. To the people who went on to destroy their equipment, you’re a bunch of cowards.” While another attendee tweeted “This doesn’t represent metalheads nor Mexicans. Only f**king morons that can’t behave properly.”

Slipknot released the following statement in regards to the incident saying:

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Slipknot were not able to perform at last night’s Knotfest. Security barricades became an issue, and it was decided that for the safety of the fans, neither Slipknot or special guests Evanescence could take the stage. We had hoped to be able to perform today, but regrettably, a situation arose onstage after the cancellation that damaged or destroyed gear that would have been necessary to play. We are extremely disappointed that we did not get the chance to perform, but the safety of our fans and our community is our biggest priority. We will look to get back to Mexico sometime in the future.

Evanescence also released a statement of their own via Instagram which can be seen below:
