Boyz II Men and Alicia Keys Honored the late Kobe Bryant in 2020 GRAMMYs Tribute in the “house that Kobe built,” his former basketball home inside of STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, CA. Keys & Boyz II Men performed a emotion-filled rendition of “It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday” as a tribute to Bryant.
Keys started off with a moment of silence before telling the audience, “We never in a million years imagined we’d have to start the show this way.”
The venues left Kobe’s retired basketball numbers illuminating on the ceiling of the STAPLES Center including his two Los Angeles Lakers jersey’s of No. 24 and No. 8.
Grammy Awards producers had were “working quickly” to add a tribute to Kobe Bryant during tonight’s (Jan. 26) award show ceremony following the NBA star’s tragic death today in a helicopter crash. The Recording Academy paid tribute to both Bryant and the slain rapper, Nipsey Hussle.
Earlier in the evening, Interim Recording Academy chief and board chair Harvey Mason led the premiere ceremony in a moment of silence for Bryant saying, “Since we are in his house I would ask you to join me in a moment of silence.”
