In a recent interview with SiriusXM’s The Highway host Storme Warren, Shelton revealed that Stefani had a tough time writing her wedding vows and just wanted to do the “repeat after me stuff,” however, Carson Daly encouraged her and Shelton to write their own vows as he admits, “you guys are two of the best songwriters in the world, we want to hear your words.”
After being asked to officiate the Shelton wedding, Daly told the couple, who met on NBC’s The Voice, that one of their main responsibilities is to write their vows.
“He came to us and said, ‘okay, you guys have to have some responsibilities here.’ And one of them was to, to write our vows,” Shelton explained to Warren in a recent interview.
Later adding, “Gwen right up until the night before, like when it started getting like two weeks away, she was like, ‘oh my God, let’s just not do that. Let’s just, let’s just like, have the repeat after me stuff.’ And you know what I mean?” However, Daly was adamant that the singers both write their vows.
“Carson was adamant about, no, you, you can, you know, look, you’re a songwriter, you can do this,” Shelton said. “You know. And so, and right up until the night before, uh, she was working on hers and it was incredible.”
While Shelton admits that her vows were incredible, he hasn’t yet seen video of their wedding yet and recalls Stefani having a hard time getting through the vows during their intimate ceremony.
“I still haven’t even seen a video of, of our wedding yet. So I can’t remember all, all the things she said, but it was, she had them written down and she had a hard time getting through them,” the Oklahoma native recalled. “I had a hard time, uh, you know, trying to, you know, get through what she said also.”
After six years together, country superstar, Shelton, 45, and No Doubt singer, Stefani, 51, exchanged vows during an intimate ceremony in front of their closest family and friends on July 3. The elegant Carson Daly-officiated ceremony took place inside a chapel on Shelton’s ranch, built exclusively for the superstar couple to say their “I Do’s.”
Shelton and Stefani got engaged back in late October 2020 in Shelton’s hometown of Oklahoma. They first met as coaches on NBC’s The Voice in 2014, following both of their public breakups. The superstar couple began dating in November 2015, just a year after working together as coaches on The Voice.
The couple has gone on to release four duets together throughout their relationship thus far, including “Nobody But You,” “Happy Anywhere” and more.
