Beaten In Lips – Beartooth (Song Review)

Beartooth Beaten In Lips Song Review“Beaten in Lips” is the first single released from hardcore punkers Beartooth’s newest album titled Disgusting due out June 10th. They are playing the entirety of the Vans Warped Tour 2014 along with The Ghost Inside, Saves the Day, A Skylit Drive, and I the Mighty. The song covers the topic of child and domestic abuse; at the end of the music video there is information for domestic abuse hotlines. The meaning is very prevalent in the lyrics as well. “I never knew a person could be so deranged. Does it make you feel good? Do you feel strong ruining the lives of everyone you love?”, “This is for the kids with the beaten in lips. Whose parents try to shut them up using their fists”, “As if life isn’t hard already, add it to the list of things to forget” and “listen to the sound of your children revolting, listen to the sound of the lives you’re ruining”. And for the first time in a long time the music video actually correlates with the lyrics and meaning behind the song. Front man Caleb Shomo does not fail to disappoint. The balance of his clean and unclean vocals are nothing short of perfection. The breakdown about half way through also is amazing, and make the song what it is. Reception from fans has been nothing short of positive. Whether it be the message, the vocals, the instruments, or a combination, almost everyone adores it. While yes, there are a handful that aren’t huge on the song, the good outweighs the bad very much so.

Rating: 4/5- An amazing song with an amazing message. And it’s often an area that not many folks are willing to go and delve into due to the sensitive nature, however I think that child and domestic abuse is something that should be brought to light. I could really hear the combination of the two styles; punk and hardcore, they’re blended so perfectly. I highly suggest giving this track a listen.

If you or anyone you know is suffering from abuse, please tell someone; you’re not alone, there are people that can help you. Call 1-800-799-7233 or visit for help.
