Worldwide multi-platinum, 2018 Grammy Award®-winning “Best New Artist” Alessia Cara, the most-streamed new female artist of 2017, today releases her brand new single and video, “Trust My Lonely,” via Def Jam Recordings. “Trust My Lonely” follows up “Growing Pains,” released in June; both tracks are slated to appear on Alessia’s upcoming second album, THE PAINS OF GROWING.
In the bright, colorful new video for “Trust My Lonely,” Alessia has once again donned the symbolic, oversized suit she wore in the “Growing Pains” video, as well as recent appearances on Fallon, Colbert and The Today Show. Alessiatold the Today crew: “It’s an artistic way of symbolizing the idea of growing up. Sometimes you kind of feel like you’re drowning and you feel like you’re not ready for the roles life throws at you so this was my way of symbolizing it in an artistic way.” Alessia took to her Instagram to help add some clarity, saying “the oversized suit visually represents the idea of growing up too fast, or trying to fit ourselves into roles that can feel too large to handle. we aren’t always prepared for life when it runs towards us full speed. sometimes it feels like we’re drowning in it a little, sometimes it’s mundane and stagnant. that’s what the suit is.”

As Alessia hits the road on a whirlwind promotional tour for “Trust My Lonely,” she has scheduled a series of speaking engagements at four college campuses, discussing her music, her process, and her personal story of growth as an artist and as young woman. The tour began October 1st at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, and continued at the University of Central Florida in Orlando October 2nd; Georgia State University in Atlanta October 3rd and today at the Detroit Institute of Music Education.
“Growing Pains” followed “1-800-273-8255,” her landmark 5x-platinum collaboration with fellow Def Jam artist Logic, and “Stay,” her double-platinum #1 Pop Song collaboration with Zedd. Together with her prior multi-platinum hits “Here,” “Wild Things,” and “Scars To Your Beautiful,” all from Know-It-All, her 2015 debut album, Alessia was named “Most-Streamed New Female Artist of 2017,” with over 7 billion global streams to date.
