Alana Springsteen released her high-energy breakup anthem, “Trust Issues” on Friday, May 13.

The song, which Springsteen co-wrote with Sasha Alex Sloan, Jessie Jo Dillon, and Nick Bailey details the shattered trust that results from a rough breakup. The track features Springsteen putting her stunning vocals on full display while also showcasing top-notch songwriting.

Thank you for all of the lies / And thank you for wrecking my life / Thank you for the tears and the unnecessary drama / Can’t believe I let someone like you around my mama / Thank you for breaking my heart / And thank you for leaving a scar / You got all my love and then you even took the truck too / And all I got are trust issues,” Springsteen sings on the song’s chorus.

Springsteen described the process of writing “Trust Issues” as painful. “‘Trust Issues’ was painful to write,” she shared. “It’s a song I had put off writing but knew needed to get out – for my sake. The guy who broke my heart told more lies than I can count and turned out to be the exact opposite of who he promised he was … cue ‘Trust Issues.’ This song is an anthem for anyone out there who’s on the other side of heartbreak, still dealing with anger, sadness, bitterness, and the fear that they may never be able to trust again. I loved being able to do this without making it a sad song,” she said.

Springsteen also shared about the emotional catharsis in co-writing the song with Sloan, Dillon, and Bailey.

“If Sasha [Alex Sloan], Jessie [Jo Dillon], and Nick [Bailey] hadn’t been in the writing room with me that day, I’m not sure I would’ve had the courage to say it all out loud,” Springsteen said. “Thankfully, the girls had just gone through insane breakups themselves and the day was more of a therapy session than anything else,” she explained.

Springsteen’s latest release follows her first outside cut, “New Number” and previous release “Me, Myself, and Why.” Springsteen also released her EP, History of Breaking Up (Part One) in September 2021.

Springsteen reacted to her new song being out Friday on Instagram, thanking her fans for “allowing [her] to be vulnerable.”

The 2022 Music Mayhem Artist To Watch will make her CMA Fest debut next month on June 11 in Nashville.
