Hey Scotty, How have you been other then topping the country music charts with your newest single “Southern Belle” which was released late 2015 leaving fans anxious for your third studio album to be released.
I’m good, brother. Been busy working on new music, working on the book, going back to the finale of “American Idol” and touring, but life is great!
Since mentioning your third studio album in the previous question, Lets chat about it a bit. Is there a title for it at this time?
Not yet. We’re still working on the music. Once we have it all done, then we’ll determine what the title is.
We know the first single off the new album is “Southern Belle” and it seems your sound changed a bit making for more of a pop-country single. What can fans expect from your new album coming out sometime in 2016 and Is there any release dates yet for the album or even another single?
I will always sing country music. That’s what I love, that’s what I want to sing, and that’s who I am. We’re hoping to have the album out by the end of the year, but we’ll see how it goes.
What would you say the meaning behind the song “Southern Belle” is?
It was just a fun song about beautiful, strong Southern women, but honestly there are beautiful, strong women everywhere. It’s a tribute to the ladies.
Aside from new music you have a new book coming out on May 3rd, 2016 titled “Go Big or Go Home: The Journey Toward The Dream.” What can we expect to read in this book?
I’m sharing stories from my life. There’s a lot about my time on “American Idol,” but there’s also stories from before I was discovered and stories from after I began my career. Lots of experiences I wanted to share including lessons that I learned. I wanted to let people know more about my family, my friends, my hometown, and my faith – those are all the things that really made me who I am.
A topic I am sure will be mentioned in your book is… American Idol. Which was definitely a huge career launcher for you to help achieve your dreams, and being you just recently played live on the finale episode of American Idol sending the show off as it will no longer be a show. How does it feel to know that a show that launched your career is no longer going to be on to help others launch their careers?
It’s bittersweet, man, but all good things come to an end. That show ran for 15 years and changed pop culture forever. I’m proud to be just a small part of its history. And I have no doubt that it will come back.
How did it feel to win American Idol while 30 million people across the world were watching you and having it launch your career so quickly at the young age of only 17 years old?
I was so thankful to the fans who voted for me, as well as to the producers, judges, and guest artists who taught me more about music, the business and life then you can possibly imagine. I grew up in front of the American public and that was odd but fun at the same time. I guess it’s a good thing I don’t have any secrets because you can’t have any when you have cameras around you 24 hours a day.
Is there any country artist that has helped guide your country career?
Brad Paisley and Josh Turner have both given me great advice. I toured with Brad the year after I won and that was an amazing experience. I just soaked it all in. I toured with Rascal Flatts last year and watched them perform every night so I could learn from them. I’ve had great conversations with people like Garth Brooks, Steve Wariner, Keith Urban, and so many more.
You’re currently out on the road doing a brief but intimate book tour selling your books and doing signings. What can fans expect if they attended one of the dates on the book tour?
The book tour is taking place mainly at bookstores around the country where I’ll meet the fans and sign books. At the final stop in my hometown of Garner, North Carolina, we’ll do a brief acoustic performance and a Q&A before the book signing begins. I’m looking forward to it. All the book tour dates are on my website if anyone wants to check ’em out.
Speaking of tours do you have any touring plans coming up on the near future where you will be back on the stage performing for thousands of people per night?
I’ll be touring all summer. The band and I will hit it hard beginning in June and going into the fall. Can’t wait – I love seeing my fans out on the road! Tour dates are at my website and they are updated constantly.
We appreciate you taking the time to sit down with us and do this interview! Anything else you wish to say or mention to your fans that we haven’t mentioned in this interview?
You will never know how much I love and appreciate all my fans. They have truly changed my life and allowed me to live out my dreams. I am forever grateful for them.
Thanks for the interview Andrew. I appreciate it. Have a great day! -Scotty
